Get Free Milkweed Seeds to Help Save Local Butterflies — How to Claim Them

Helping butterflies and bees is more important than ever, and planting milkweed is one of the best ways to support monarch butterflies. Live Monarch, a conservation organization, offers free or low-cost milkweed seed packs to people across the United States and Canada so they can create habitat and food sources for migrating monarchs.

Live Monarch provides region-specific seed mixes, so the seeds you receive are suited to your local climate and will thrive where you live. That increases the chances that planted milkweed will establish successfully and supply nectar and host plants for monarch caterpillars.

Below is an example map showing the types of milkweed recommended for different U.S. regions.

I ordered seeds last year and scattered them around my yard; it was rewarding to see new milkweed appear and to know I was helping monarchs find food and breeding habitat.
