Who doesn’t love pizza? Here’s an easy, comforting pizza recipe you can make at home — a mushroom pizza with an Asian twist that uses good-quality soy sauce and classic Chinese-inspired flavors.
A bit of background: part of my heritage is Chinese, which often inspires my cooking even if it might not be obvious from my appearance. Chinese cuisine and pizza don’t typically go together, but combining them led to a delicious result I wanted to share.
I use oyster and brown button mushrooms in this recipe. I love oyster mushrooms for their texture and button mushrooms because they’re classic, but you can swap in shiitake, king oyster, or any mushrooms you prefer. This pizza is flexible — style and top it however you like.
For a simple dipping sauce I mix vegan mayo with sriracha — because dipping the crust is a must, right?
You can use any pizza crust, homemade or store-bought. I chose a Magioni crust this time because it’s colorful and has vegetables in it — a fun way to feel a little virtuous while enjoying pizza.
Let’s get started — a pizza is waiting with your name on it.

Sesame & Chili Mushroom Pizza
Pin Recipe
Ingredients
- 150 grams oyster mushrooms
- 150 grams button mushroom
- 1 Pizza Crust
- 1 serving tomato sauce
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp agave
- 1 tbsp sesame seeds
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 1/4 tsp ginger powder
- 1 chili
Instructions
-
Preheat the oven to 175°C (347°F). Start by preparing the mushrooms. Heat a pan over medium-high heat until warm, then add the mushrooms and cook until they reduce significantly in size and begin to brown.
-
When the oyster mushrooms start to brown on both sides, reduce the heat to low and add the soy sauce, chili, sesame oil, sesame seeds, garlic powder, ginger powder and agave. Toss to coat and cook for another minute or two so the flavors meld.
-
Assemble the pizza by spreading tomato sauce over the crust, then top with the seasoned mushrooms and any sliced chili you like. Bake in the preheated oven for 10–12 minutes, or until the crust turns golden and the toppings are heated through.
-
Remove from the oven and finish with fresh toppings of your choice. I like to add sliced scallions, bell pepper and a drizzle of sriracha to finish. This batch could make two smaller pizzas depending on crust size. Enjoy!
