5-Year Blog Anniversary + Skinny Malted Frosty Recipe You’ll Love

(Disclosure: Blendtec is providing the blender for this giveaway.)

It’s hard to believe, but this week marks Aggie’s Kitchen’s 5-year anniversary. I published my first posts on June 3, 2008, and that excitement sparked a steady stream of recipes, stories, and kitchen experiments ever since. The blog began with a few early posts—introductions, favorite cookbooks and simple recipes—and quickly grew into a place where I share the food I love and how I make it healthier for my family.

Blogging has evolved a lot in five years, yet it remains an essential part of my life. I enjoy revisiting older posts to see how my kids have grown (they were tiny when I began) and to remember recipes I made years ago. Most of all, the blog continues to be about food—good food and the connections it creates with readers who care about what they eat.

(Hard to imagine these two ever this little … photo taken on Sanibel Island, Summer 2008 — my daughter had just learned to walk!)

To celebrate five years of sharing recipes and to thank longtime and new readers, I’m hosting a series of giveaways throughout the month. I’ll be offering a few of the kitchen tools I use most often, starting with my favorite: a Blendtec blender.

I picked up my Blendtec in August 2011 and it has been on the countertop almost every day since. We use it for smoothies and whole-juice blends, and it’s great for making pesto, hummus (with the Twister jar), salsas and other recipes that benefit from high-powered blending.

Recently a friend mentioned craving a chocolate malt, which sent me straight back to a lighter “faux” Frosty I used to make while following the South Beach plan. I mixed a version using Chocolate Malt Ovaltine and some simple, high-protein ingredients. The result was rich, satisfying, and low enough in calories that it will likely become a summer favorite whenever I want a sweet treat.

Notes

Estimated nutrition using MyFitnessPal: about 175 calories, 2.8 g fat, 14 g protein.

A high-protein, relatively low-calorie dessert that satisfies a chocolate craving. Inspired by The Lemon Bowl’s Chocolate Malt and adapted from a South Beach-style Frosty recipe.
