Strawberry Lemonade Margarita Cocktail Recipe

An easy and delicious recipe to make a strawberry lemonade margarita. With only 4 ingredients this is the perfect cocktail for Summer.

Strawberry Lemonade Margarita

When life hands you lemons, reach for the tequila and make a strawberry lemonade margarita. This bright, refreshing cocktail is one of my favorite go-to drinks at home. Once you master a simple margarita base, it’s easy to experiment with mixers and fresh fruit to create something new and seasonal.

With many of us spending more time at home, I decided to test a strawberry lemonade twist for a virtual girls’ night. It turned out so well that I had to share the recipe. It’s tangy, slightly sweet, and perfectly balanced — a great alternative to the versions you might order at chain restaurants, but made with better ingredients and at a fraction of the cost.

If you enjoy margaritas, try making this one as a starting point and adapt it however you like. You can swap fruit, use frozen lemonade for a blended version, or muddle fresh strawberries into the mix for extra depth. The recipe below is a simple base that leaves plenty of room for creativity.

Which tequila should I use to make margaritas?

Choosing tequila is mostly a matter of taste and budget. I prefer silver (blanco) tequila for margaritas because its clean, bright flavor complements fresh citrus and fruit without overpowering them. Some of my favorite clear tequilas are Hornitos, Espolòn, and Patrón Silver. If you only have a gold or reposado tequila on hand, that’s fine too — use what you like and what fits your budget.

Lemonade Margaritas

Lemonade margaritas are extremely versatile. Use any flavor of lemonade you enjoy, or start with plain lemonade and add muddled fruit to customize the drink. Frozen lemonade or a can of frozen concentrate works well if you want a slushy, blended margarita. Treat the recipe below as a base: change the fruit, sweetener, or citrus amounts to suit your palate and create your own signature cocktail.

SALT OR SUGAR?

Rimming the glass is optional and depends on your preference. I prefer a sugared rim or none at all; salt on the rim isn’t my style. If you like a perfectly even rim for presentation, a small tool called a glass rimmer can help, but it’s not necessary — a shallow dish of sugar or salt and a lime wedge will do the job.

Strawberry Lemonade Margarita

A tart and sweet strawberry lemonade spin on a classic margarita. Bright, refreshing, and quick to make — ideal for warm weather and casual gatherings.

Prep Time

Total Time

Ingredients

  • 4 oz strawberry lemonade
  • 1/2 oz fresh lime juice
  • 1/2 oz triple sec or orange liqueur
  • 2 oz tequila (clear/blanco recommended)
  • Garnish: fresh strawberries and a lime slice

Instructions

  1. Add all liquid ingredients to a cocktail shaker filled with ice. If you don’t have a shaker, a lidded mason jar works well — just be sure to strain the ice when pouring.
  2. Secure the lid snugly and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds until well chilled.
  3. Strain into a glass over fresh ice. Garnish with sliced strawberries and a lime wedge.

Notes

For extra fruit flavor, muddle a few fresh strawberries in the shaker before adding ice and the other ingredients. To make a frozen version, blend the ingredients with ice until smooth. Adjust the sweetness by choosing a sweeter or more tart lemonade, or add a touch of simple syrup if needed.
