What’s better than a cold cocktail on a hot summer day? How about an iced drink that’s refreshing and packed with vitamins, minerals and probiotics — and still tastes great. Meet the Blueberry Celery Kombucha Cocktail.
Brewing kombucha has become a bit of an obsession for me. It’s simple to make at home and far less expensive than buying bottles from the store. Plus, once you start brewing your own, the flavor possibilities feel almost endless.
For this recipe I wanted to experiment with an unexpected ingredient: celery.
Celery is usually relegated to the garnish role — think Bloody Mary — or to snacks with dip. But celery has a mild, refreshing flavor that works surprisingly well in mixed drinks. Combined with sweet blueberries and fizzy kombucha, it becomes delightful, balanced, and memorable.
To make this cocktail I used a batch of unflavored kombucha I had on hand. If you don’t brew your own yet, unflavored kombucha is widely available at grocery and health food stores and makes a great base for cocktails and mocktails.
I blended frozen blueberries and celery in a high-power blender (any good blender will do) on pulse until completely smooth. The frozen berries give a thick, slushy texture without needing to add extra liquid.
Next, pour the blended mixture into a shaker (a shaker with a strainer is handy if the blend isn’t perfectly smooth). Add kombucha and vodka, shake briefly to combine, then strain into glasses. For two large cocktails I used about 2 cups kombucha and 3 ounces vodka total, but you can adjust to taste or omit the vodka for a refreshing nonalcoholic version.

Ingredients
- 1 ½ stalks celery
- ½ cup frozen blueberries
- 2 cups unflavored kombucha
- 3 oz vodka (optional)
Instructions

Combine celery and frozen blueberries in a high-speed blender. Blend on pulse until smooth.

Add the blended mixture to a shaker, then pour in kombucha and vodka (if using). Shake gently to combine.

Strain into two glasses and serve immediately. Enjoy as a cocktail or omit the alcohol for a vibrant mocktail.
