Dark Chocolate Coffee Crinkle Cookies

It’s Christmas Cookies Week here and these Dark Chocolate Coffee Crinkle Cookies are a favorite for holiday cookie trays. They disappear fast—bring a big batch to a holiday gathering and they’ll be gone in no time.

Inspired by a love of coffee, dark chocolate and classic crinkle cookies, this recipe combines those flavors into a single, irresistible cookie. The result is rich chocolate with a pleasant coffee finish and plenty of melty dark chocolate chips throughout.

Dark Chocolate Coffee Crinkle Cookies

These cookies are perfect to include on any Christmas cookie plate. I once brought five dozen to a school holiday program and came home with only crumbs—proof they’re crowd-pleasers.

Serve them warm straight from the oven or let them cool a bit to retain that chewy interior. They pair beautifully with a hot cup of coffee or tea, and are equally delicious with hot chocolate or milk.

The texture is alluring: slightly crisp at the edges and soft and chewy in the center. Dark chocolate chips and a hint of coffee extract create a deep, indulgent flavor in every bite.

I tested these cookies multiple times for this post—each batch vanished quickly. My kids couldn’t stop eating them, and I had to hide a batch just long enough to take photos.

If you enjoy the combination of coffee and chocolate, these cookies will become a staple. They store well in a sealed container for about a week, so you can make them ahead for parties or gift tins.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup dark cocoa powder
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • ½ cup vegetable or canola oil
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons coffee extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups dark chocolate chips
  • ¼ cup powdered sugar (for rolling)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, blend the dark cocoa powder, granulated sugar and oil until combined. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then add the coffee extract and mix well.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder and salt. Stir the dry ingredients and the dark chocolate chips into the cocoa mixture until just combined.
  3. Place the dough in a covered container and chill for at least 2 hours.
  4. When ready to bake, preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line cookie sheets with parchment paper, a baking mat, or lightly grease them.
  5. Roll the dough into 1-inch balls. Roll each ball in powdered sugar to coat, then place on the prepared baking sheet spaced about 2 inches apart.
  6. Bake for 10–12 minutes at 350°F (175°C). Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
  7. Store cookies in a sealed container at room temperature for up to a week.
