Salted Caramel Pretzel Cookie Freakshake Recipe

This Salted Caramel Cookie and Pretzel Freakshake is absolutely delicious. It’s indulgent, over-the-top and perfect when you want something fun and decadent.

If you love creative milkshakes, this one delivers — sweet salted caramel, crunchy pretzels, and leftover cookies blended into a creamy base, then piled high with toppings.

Valentine’s Day is a great excuse to make this for someone special — or to treat yourself. It’s playful, messy and meant to be shared (or not!).

Freakshakes have taken the internet by storm, and New York–style versions have been popping up everywhere. I couldn’t resist giving one a try at home.

Making this was a fun little project. We debated toppings — chocolate bark vs. waffles, cookie pieces vs. M&M’s — and ended up using a bit of everything. If you have kids, decorating a freakshake is a perfect weekend activity.

This is also a handy way to use leftover holiday cookies. If you still have Christmas cookies in the pantry, this recipe makes delicious use of them.

This freakshake is:

  • Made from leftover cookies
  • Topped with chocolate bark, pretzels, waffles, M&M’s and more
  • Quick to prepare — about 10–15 minutes active time
  • Perfect for celebrations or a special treat

Unless you’re on a strict diet, this is a must-make once in a while. Even on a diet, an occasional indulgence is fine.

The method is flexible: blend a salted caramel and pretzel milkshake base, then add your favorite toppings to create the freakshake look.

Toppings I used:

  • Chocolate ganache
  • Pretzels
  • Chocolate bark
  • Waffles
  • M&M’s
  • Extra cookies and pretzels

Other topping ideas:

  • Melted chocolate or chocolate syrup
  • Popcorn (works with the salted caramel flavor)
  • Cookie sandwiches
  • Extra salted caramel sauce
  • Nutella

Suggestions:

  1. If you don’t have salted caramel cookies, use 3 tablespoons of salted caramel sauce instead.
  2. Use any flavored milk or regular milk — plain milk works well if you don’t have a salted caramel variety.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup puhoi valley salted caramel milk (or any flavored/plain milk)
  • 10 pieces mini salted caramel cookies
  • 5 pretzel bows
  • 4 scoops vanilla ice cream

Chocolate Ganache

  • 1/4 cup cream
  • 1/4 cup chocolate buttons

Other toppings

  • Chocolate bark
  • Whipped cream
  • M&M’s
  • Waffles
  • Extra cookies and pretzels

Instructions

  • In a blender, combine 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream, the milk, cookies and pretzels. Blend until smooth. Taste and adjust by adding more cookies or pretzels if you prefer a stronger flavor. Set aside.
  • Make the ganache: heat the cream in the microwave or in a double boiler, then pour it over the chocolate buttons. Let it sit for 5 minutes, then stir until the chocolate melts. Leave it at room temperature to thicken slightly so it can be spread on the jar rim (about 10–15 minutes).

To Serve

  • Take a mason jar and spread the ganache around the rim and inside the top of the jar. Press pretzel bows and M&M’s into the ganache so they stick.
  • Add 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream to the jar, then pour the prepared milkshake in to fill.
  • Top with whipped cream and arrange chocolate bark, waffles, extra cookies, pretzels and M&M’s on top. Add a straw and a spoon and serve immediately.

Notes

1. Skip the chocolate ganache and use Nutella or melted chocolate for a simpler option.
2. If you don’t have salted caramel cookies, substitute with 3 tablespoons of salted caramel sauce.
3. Any flavored milk or plain milk works well if puhoi valley milk isn’t available.
