Tropical Monkey Breakfast Smoothie Recipe

Hi friends! I have a quick and easy breakfast smoothie recipe to share today that’s great for both kids and adults. Our new blender has been getting a workout lately as we’ve been experimenting with fruity combinations.

The kids have been asking for smoothies at breakfast, but I wanted something with protein that wouldn’t take long to prepare. I’m not much of a morning person, so simplicity is key. After a few tries we landed on this protein-packed Funky Monkey Breakfast Smoothie.

My middle child loves peanut butter and would happily eat peanut butter and jelly every day. She usually prefers strawberry jelly and sometimes honey instead. She also adores bananas and will occasionally add one to her sandwich on weekends.

This smoothie combines all her favorite flavors—peanut butter, strawberries, and banana—so we named it the Funky Monkey. She may roll her eyes at the name, but she always drinks every last drop.

Ingredients

  • 3 ripe bananas
  • 1 pound strawberries, washed and hulled
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter
  • 1 1/2 cups milk (we use 2%)
  • 1/2 teaspoon honey (optional)
  • 2 cups ice

Directions

Add the strawberries to the blender, then the bananas.
Add the peanut butter, milk, honey (if using), and top with the ice.
Blend on high until the mixture is smooth and fully combined. If you prefer a thicker smoothie, use less milk or add less ice.
Taste and adjust: add more honey for sweetness or extra peanut butter for a stronger flavor.
Serve immediately and enjoy!

A note on texture: we started with 1 cup of milk but found the smoothie too thick. Increasing to 1 1/2 cups gives a creamier, more drinkable consistency. If you like it thicker, reduce the milk or add frozen fruit instead of ice.

The honey is optional but helps balance the peanut butter’s intensity. If you’re a peanut butter fanatic, feel free to skip the honey.

Tip for busy mornings: slice the strawberries the night before and store them in the fridge so you can blend and go. This small prep step saves time and makes breakfast easier on hectic days.

We love these Funky Monkey smoothies for a quick, filling breakfast that kids enjoy and adults appreciate for the protein boost.
